Why Capoeira?

Do you have to be fit and flexible to do Capoeira?
No – just like any sport, you get fitness and flexibility through doing Capoeira. Most of our students had no background in martial arts before starting.

Shan Mei, Bethells Beach

"I enjoy Capoeira because it enables me to immerse myself into another culture (and history) which is so vibrant and expressive, much different from my own. I love how it pushes me to express myself when often I'd be too shy... whether it be through singing, dancing or just playing capoeira. And I love that there is no right way as such, to play capoeira. " Faceira, Bethells Beach

“Through capoeira I have met so many great people from all over the world and made many lasting friendships. But most of all, I love the beauty of the game, the interaction between players, combined with the music and energy of the roda… It’s something you can’t describe till you see and feel it for yourself.” - Shan Mei ‘Faceira’

“Capoeira is more than just a great way to keep in physical shape. It is a lifestyle with fantastic community, friends and song.” Sarah Rimmer

“I enjoy Capoeira because it’s martial art, music, history, culture, fluid,  and most importantly, everyone has fun.” Lawrence Xu ‘Passarinho”

“Capoeira knows no boundaries. People from different parts of the world, of all ages, sizes and cultures come together for the sole purpose of enjoying the benefits of capoeira.” Dzul Ibrahim ‘Saracura’

Naomi - at Lion's Rock

"Why Capoeira? It's heaps of fun, I get a great workout and unwind at the same time. Capoeira is great to travel with as well - I've met some great people and had unique experiences overseas through Capoeira." Naomi Kuttner 'Cangaceira'

Hi Curtis,

you go down to the bottom of queen st – through QEII square to Quay st, turn right, then walk along till you get to 108 Quay st (I think it’s about 2 blocks.)

We have classes for kids, and there is no age limit for capoeira, you can be 5, 25 or even 60 and still enjoy the benefits of capoeira ;) . All class details are on the class info page

Hi, I was learning capoeira in London for about 1 and a half years. It was Nago capoeira which is a more high energy upright game which I enjoyed. Is your style similar to this or more traditional Angola style? Thanks

Hi there,

ours is the more upright style.

cheers
Naomi
